Week six of confinement in Normandy started the same as the previous weeks, however it ended very differently. Even during this strange time, I’m someone who thrives with a routine. Last week my little quarantine routine got turned on its head.
Confinement Week Five in Normandy
On the last day of week five of confinement in Normandy I slipped on my sweatpants for the very first time since we’ve been here. It’s something I’ve wanted to do basically since day one, but I’ve never really had the right opportunity. Funny since confinement in the countryside seems in and of itself a perfect excuse to wear sweatpants every day. But when I think about wearing sweatpants in France I think of Karl Lagerfeld’s declaration: “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.”
Confinement Week Four in Normandy
After our fourth full week of confinement in Normandy I’ve decided that time seems to be suspended. The weather has been beautiful every day, which has been great, but anything without variation eventually gets old. Other than the changes and blooms in the garden, every day feels oddly the same. It’s kind of like groundhog day over and over again.
Confinement Week Three in Normandy
The third week of confinement in Normandy was filled with a few more ups and downs than the previous two weeks…which I think is completely normal all things considered. There was a definite shift from feeling like we were temporarily in Normandy to a longer lasting situation. I’ve learned that now more than ever I thrive on routines and a little bit of alone time.
Confinement Week Two in Normandy
Like the first week, week two of our COVID-19 confinement in Normandy flew by. Or at least looking back it feels like it did. I think the expression “the days are long but the weeks are short” will probably apply to our time here. Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a movie, but luckily it’s a comedy.
