I really thought I was done with the weekly confinement recaps for 2020, but here we are. It’s officially been a week since President Macron announced the reconfinement (second lockdown) due to the second wave of COVID-19. While there are many similarities to the first lockdown, round two is decidedly different. Let’s recap confinement 2.0, week one.
An October COVID-19 Update in Paris
So for the first October COVID-19 update in Paris: today the announcement we’ve been waiting for (and dreading) came. As of tomorrow, bars and cafés will close for at least two weeks in Paris. It feels like a pretty big morale blow as I’m sure it’s just the beginning of closings due to the second wave of COVID-19.
My Post-Confinement Return to Paris
We got back to Paris from Normandy on Monday evening. Normally, coming out of the tunnel and spotting my first grand boulevard filled with apartment buildings on a return to Paris (post-confinement or not) would excite me to no end. However, that was also the moment that I realized that I would soon be driving around the Place de l’Étoile for the first time – aka the circle around the Arc de Triomphe.
Confinement Week Eight in Normandy
So this is it…the last recap of life in full “lockdown.” Unless of course it gets reinstated, but I’m not going to let myself go there right now. Week eight of confinement in Normandy flew by. Eight full weeks. I never thought it would last that long, and yet I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that our time here has come to an end.
Confinement Week Seven in Normandy
Week seven of confinement in Normandy was the week where it was supposed to rain all week. And while it did rain every day, it didn’t rain all day every day. It was nice to spend a lot of time inside by the fire, but we still took every chance we had to get outside.
