August is honestly always one of my favorite months to be in Paris because it’s so (so!) quiet, but this year I was scared to death it was going to be beyond packed with the Olympics so I was barely here. We spent the first part of the month in Normandy before heading to Italy on a trip that Romain and I had been looking forward to for many months. We brought bébé with us for the first part of the trip and then his grad-mère took over and we got to enjoy one of our favorite places in the world, Portofino, without him. By the time we returned back to Paris we were fully rested and recharged and ready for la rentrée! We headed back to France in mid-July following some time with my family in the US. After being convinced Paris was going to be a disaster because of the Olympics, Boomer, bébé and I headed almost directly to Normandy where Romain met us on the weekends. June was a busy month filled with travel, visitors, and catch ups with friends before everyone parted ways for the summer. I tried several new and new-to-me restaurants – one in particular that landed on my “love” list and another that landed on my “never going back again / absolutely do not recommend” list. We headed to the US at the end of the month which also meant lots of fun shopping for things to bring back for friends and family. May in France is filled with holidays, so unless they happen to fall on a weekend the month tends to fly by. May 1st is probably the toughest day in France, even worse than Christmas and New Year’s Day in terms of things being open because it’s Labor Day, which of course the French take very seriously. The best is when you can faire le pont (make a bridge) and link a few holidays together with the weekend. This year our pont allowed us a five night weekend which we spent in Normandy. The April 2024 recap is shorter than normal as we spent the majority of the month traveling in the US and introducing bébé to friends and family. I was so sad to miss the famed April in Paris, which generally does live up to the hype. Apparently however this year it was nonstop rain!
