It’s starting to feel like spring is really around the corner in Paris. Temperatures have been more mild and the birds have really been chirping. I know the groundhog saw his shadow, but hopefully we don’t really have six more weeks of winter to go. This week’s Five Friday Finds from France features the best truffle Brie cheese in Paris, an update on the rising Seine River, a Love in the Louvre virtual visit and more!
The Rising Seine River
If you’ve visited Paris from January to early March, chances are you’ve seen a high Seine. It started getting rising last week, but this week it’s really filled up. Gone are the summer days of a totally calm and almost crystal-clear river. It’s now very murky and a shade of brown. Hopefully it’ll go back to its normal level soon!
Visiting the Montrouge Market
One of the absolute best parts about living in France is the access to incredible markets every week. This week I discovered the Marché Victor Hugo in Montrouge, just outside of Paris. This covered market is held on Thursdays and Sundays and is filled with all sorts of beautiful items. I took several laps simply admiring the selections before making my purchases. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Poissonnerie Patrick et Martine there as well – I buy all of my fish from them at Marché Raspail, my local market!
Love in the Louvre
If you’re looking for a way to make Valentine’s Day extra special this year, how about a visit to the Louvre? On February 13th, my friend Claudine Hemingway is hosting Love at the Louvre. This special zoom tour highlights some of the most beautiful examples of love that you’ll find inside the museum. Following the tour, you’ll get a PDF filled with all of the information and locations of the pieces Claudine mentioned so that you can be sure to see them in person on a future Paris trip. The Best Truffle Brie Cheese in Paris
I’m here to report that the Brie de Meaux aux Truffes from La Ferme Saint Hubert is one of the best cheeses I’ve ever tried. Honestly, I don’t know what else to say about it other than get some and pair it with a baguette (I like pas trop cuite, but you do you). I promise it’s not only the best truffle Brie cheese in Paris, but it’ll also be one of your favorite meals in Paris! It would ideally be enjoyed by the Seine, when things calm down a bit.
A New Favorite Shrimp Taco Recipe
This is not very French but I have to share this recipe. Pinch of Yum is one of my favorite food blogs. I don’t think I’ve ever made one of their recipes that wasn’t absolutely delicious. This week I had a few leftover homemade butter tortillas and cabbage so this shrimp taco recipe sounded perfect. It was. I’ve been craving it ever since I made it and would highly recommend giving it a try.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Five Friday Finds from France. I’ll be back tomorrow with Weekend Links!
