We spent nearly half of May in Normandy because of all of the May holidays that we turned into long weekends. It was a good test as we learned how to travel with two bébés. A personal May highlight for me was finally convincing Romain that we needed to have air conditioning in our bedrooms at least. Read on to discover exactly where we ate and drank, shopped, and what we did in the May 2025 recap.
Where I Ate and Drank in May
- Hotel des Pins in Jullouville is my go-to place for coffee in Normandy. Every coffee comes with a homemade financier that is always beyond divine. Luckily I always have two coffees so Romain and I don’t have to fight over them.
- Romain and I had date night at Le Chalet des Dunes. We had the best table overlooking the beach and sunset. We left the babies with grandparents and our amazing babysitter. It was a blissful couple of hours where we could be off duty for the first time since having two kids.
- Once we returned to Paris it was back to Les Antiquaires, no surprise there!
- Le Voltaire multiple times. One of my favorite parts about having a newborn is they can and will sleep anywhere with any amount of noise, so we brought bébé along.
- Blueberry is one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Paris. We go almost once a week!
- I saw the spicy chicken caesar wrap on Janet’s instagram and was immediately influenced. Super good.
- Sonny’s Pizza is our favorite pizza delivered and it now even has my parents and brother’s seal of approval. The chopped cheese pizza is my favorite but really they’re all good.
- I’ve yet to find another matcha in the world that I think is better than the rose matcha at Café Nuances. It’s literal perfection.
Where I Shopped in May
- The Friday Marché de Jullouville is one of my favorites of anywhere in France. The vendors are so sweet – when we bought cheeses she gladly cut a big slice for our son to eat while we shopped around. He later moved on to a fresh homemade croissant from the market as well.
- Le Marché du Café de Pays is maybe one of the smallest in France, but we love it nonetheless. We have a tradition of having a café au bar while we do scratch-offs. Then we move onto the market where they have the amazing local blue lobsters (which we always order in advance, but you can buy on the spot if you’re early enough).
- I went a little wild at Marie Laure with the summer outfits but the bébés looked and continue to look adorable in their clothes so it was #worthit.
- La Grande Epicerie. It’s expensive but so much fun to occasionally do our grocery shopping here. If I’m ever looking for a specialty product I know I’m probably going to find it here (and if I don’t I’m probably not going to find it in Paris).
- Les Fleurs de Sanji to buy peonies – the best part of May!
What I Did in May
- Took the babies to the beach, including Boomer. Dogs aren’t allowed from June through September, so we took the opportunity to bring him with. He of course made a huge mess with the water and sand, but he had the best time. Our city bébé discovered sand for the first time as well.
- When we were in Normandy for two weeks our babysitter and Romain were able to be there on the weekends, and I stayed with Romain’s mom and the babies during the weeks. We took a lot of walks by the beach while we were “alone” to pass the time.
- Walked through the gardens of Musée Christian Dior in Granville. Romain is so sick of going by now, but I wanted our babysitter to see the gardens. It was a gorgeous day and Granville was really showing why it’s called the Monaco of the North!
- Went to our mairie (which is kind of like a town hall in each arrondissement) to get bébé his French passport. We had our civil marriage here (which is required in France), so it’s always special to go and take a peek inside the room.
- Survived the taxi protest. It was several weeks of nonstop honking and setting off fireworks what felt like directly outside our apartment. Not ideal for sleeping babies or for walking babies around.
- Celebrated Mother’s Day twice. The French day is different from the American day so I get two days. Unfortunately for Romain, Father’s Day is on the same day for both countries.
