Five Friday Finds from France: December 18th

I absolutely can’t believe this is the last Five Friday Finds from France before Christmas! And that we’re one week away from Christmas. This month is flying by. This week is of course Christmas-y, because I’m sure by now you’ve gathered that I’m completely obsessed. There are a few last-minute gift ideas that you can still pull off (including Molly Wilkinson’s cookbook which is available for pre-order) and ways that you can enjoy Paris at Christmas this year and in the future.

My Favorite Vin Chaud in Paris

I’m not a huge vin chaud person, but under the right circumstances it’s pretty delicious. My latest weekend treat is a to-go cup of Vin Chaud from Café Jade on Rue du Buci. Vin chaud tends to cost between 3€ and 5€, so at 4.50€ Café Jade is at the higher end of the scale, but it’s so good. The wine is just sweet enough and the view of the lights on Rue du Buci is even sweeter.

Chez Meunier’s Christmas Pastries

Now that Christmas really is approaching I need to get down to business and try as many holiday treats as possible. I always love Chez Meunier’s pastries (a little too much maybe), so I’m dying to try the holiday creations. Le Père Noël is calling my name: a chocolate cookie, crunchy and creamy praline, and a chocolate hazelnut mousse. I might have to also get La Mère Noël because the pair is pretty adorable.

Molly Wilkinson’s Cookbook

Speaking of sweet treats and if you’re still looking to finish your holiday shopping, Molly Wilkinson’s cookbook French Pastry Made Simple is now available to pre-order. After taking a virtual class with Molly I can confirm that she will indeed makes French pastry simple for even the newest bakers (like myself). If you’d like to give French Pastry Made Simple as a holiday gift, send Molly an email – she made a printable card that you can put in someone’s stocking!

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés Christmas Market

There aren’t many Christmas markets in Paris this year, so I was thrilled to see the one alone Boulevard Saint-Germain return last weekend. Throughout the week Parisians have been enjoying hot beverages and sweet treats while taking in the lights and offerings of the stalls. Even if it’s a smaller version of the usual market it was so good to see it again.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Five Friday Finds from France. I’ll be back tomorrow with Weekend Links! Just as a note, this series will take a one week pause next week on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas!
