Five Friday Finds from France: April 9th

It’s been a crazy week weather-wise in Paris. We went from picture-perfect spring weather over the weekend to snow on Tuesday. Multiple times. It was very bizarre, but it’s warming back up again. I can’t wait to see even more blossoms emerging and leaves returning to trees. This week’s Five Friday Finds from France features the new Provence Glory book, a cute take on a French summer straw tote that I’ve never seen before, an unexpected picnic-perfect cheese board and more.

Provence Glory Book

You probably know by now that I think Assouline’s Paris Chic is an absolute must-have book for Francophiles and Paris lovers. Assouline just released another book about Provence that does a fabulous job of capturing the spirit of the region. While it’s unlikely that travel to France will be possible this summer, the new Provence Glory book might be the next best thing. Whether you’ve been to Provence or not, you’ll be dreaming up a future trip (which I would be happy to help you plan).

My Window Box Herbs

Before the cold front hit I was really inspired to start cultivating this year’s edition of my window box garden. The geraniums (and potentially one cayenne pepper plant, TBD) are the only things that survived the winter, so I’m starting from scratch. So far I have thyme, lots of basil, cherry tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, rosemary and cilantro. I haven’t planted anything yet because I’m not sure the cold is completely gone yet, but I’m very excited. If you have any suggestions for other herbs and vegetables I’d love to hear them!

French Summer Straw Totes

When spring arrives in Paris you start to see more and more straw totes. I’m guilty of loving them in all different shapes and sizes, but I thought this straw tote shaped like a Birkin was pretty cute and original. It’s especially practical to be able to close the bag. I just might have to add another market tote to my collection…

A Monoprix Picnic-Perfect Cheese Board

I prefer shopping for cheese at specialty cheese shops whenever possible (you can see my top picks in Paris here). In a pinch (and for one stop shopping) I go to Monoprix. I thought this little cheese board would be great for a grab and go picnic summer picnic. The only thing missing is a bottle of rosé and a baguette!

Help Claudine Hemingway Fight Cancer

Last but not least, I wanted to share the link to a GoFundMe that was set up to help Claudine Hemingway fight cancer. If you love French history and culture, chances are you already know Claudine. She was recently diagnosed with CML, a blood cancer that is fortunately treatable, but requires Claudine to take expensive medication every day for the rest of her life. If you’re able to support whether through a donation or a share it would be so appreciated.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Five Friday Finds from France. I’ll be back tomorrow with Weekend Links!
