The Most Beautiful Christmas Lights in Paris

For my last post before Christmas I wanted to keep it simple and festive. I decided to share what I think are the most beautiful Christmas lights in Paris. December in Paris is such a wonderful, usually underrated month in the City of Lights. The extra sparkles after dark just make Paris that much more beautiful.

If you read my last post you know that I’m staying in Paris for Christmas this year. I’ve been trying to get into the spirit and embrace this Christmas for what it is, but it’s been hard. It just hasn’t felt the same this year with lockdowns, curfews, closed restaurants and cafés, and essentially empty streets.

Yesterday Romain and I started getting ready for our Christmas Eve dinner. We decided to make our own foie gras and salmon gravlax for a Christmas soirée fait maison and à la maison. We’re a little nervous. Mostly hoping that everything tastes good since this is a first attempt. If not there’s always pasta! We’re excited that everything is made in advance so tomorrow will be super easy and stress-free.

A Christmas Walk in Paris

While we were waiting for the foie gras to chill before cooking, I decided to go for a walk. With restaurants closed, the lockdown, and now the 8PM curfew I haven’t really had a reason to be outside after dark other than in my neighborhood. I always look forward to the lights on Avenue Montaigne and had just enough time to walk there and back.

On the way I walked through Place de la Concorde and I have to say, photos don’t do it justice. I hope the city of Paris will bring this display back in the future because seeing the illuminated obelisk in between the trees on Avenue des Champs-Élysées is pretty spectacular.
