September always marks a very welcome changing of seasons – I don’t like being hot and there isn’t enough air conditioning in Paris for me to be a huge summer person. Everyone is back to school and work from their holidays and there always seems to be a buzz and energy to the city that’s exciting. We celebrated our anniversary, caught up with friends, and did a little fall shopping for bébé. Read on to discover exactly where I ate and drank, shopped, and what I did in the September 2024 recap.
Where I Ate and Drank in September
- Les Antiquaires is usually first on my list every month because I go just about every day for coffee! When Romain joins he likes to get the omelette with cheese and bacon – he orders it baveuse which means runny and I love to sneak a bite.
- Romain picked up our weekend “treats” from Copains, which is a gluten free bakery. The pecan tart I had was gluten free and vegan (I didn’t actually know it was vegan at the time). I can’t say I missed the gluten or animal products!
- I’ve lost count of how many times we went to Michalak on Rue du Bac – they have breads and croissants in addition to just pastries which is a big bonus of this location.
- Le Voltaire brought the fall menu out so obviously we had to go as soon as it came out.
- Jaïs had been on our list for a long time. We went for our anniversary dinner and it didn’t disappoint. We had the lobster salad and literally still talk about the pasta with thin sliced wagyu topped with caviar. It’s 155€ so not an every day order, but especially if you love caviar it’s fab. Definitely finish with the madeleine served warm directly in a little copper pot with ice cream.
- Le Basilic is good not great in terms of food, but on a nice day you can’t beat sitting outside on the terrace. It feels like being worlds away from Paris.
- Mersea. Romain loves fish and I don’t like cooking it, so we ate lunch at Mersea a few times in September.
- La Crêperie de Josselin. One of our favorite Sunday lunch spots. We always get the Bertine with an oeuf mirroir (fried egg on top instead of scrambled inside) and a goat cheese salad. Sometimes Romain branches out but he always comes back to the Bertine.
- Le Sèvres Raspail for morning coffee before going to Marché Raspail.
- Le Pont Traversé for a coffee. It’s cute but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go.
Where I Shopped in September
- Jacadi. We realized we had no warm weather clothes for bébé so off we went to Jacadi. We got him this hat which is lined with fleece so it’s extra warm, these matching booties (which he manages to kick off every time of course – the only booties we’ve managed to keep on are these from Bonpoint which are actually on sale. We got them as a gift and they are truly the best), and pants. Definitely shop Jacadi in France if you can – the prices are a lot better and they are almost always having a sale!
- Vanves Flea Market. I wanted to see what it was like going with a stroller and it was doable, but less than ideal.
- We really enjoyed cooking at home in September and went to the organic version of Marché Raspail almost every Sunday. It’s not a cheap market – but all of the products are organic and many of them come from local producers. The quality is really incredible.
What I Did in September
- Spent a lot of time in “baby jail.” Playpens are called parc bébé in French. Our baby became very mobile in September and I’m not ready to baby proof everything quite yet so instead we spend a lot of time in there together.
- European Heritage Days. We got honey from the Luxembourg Garden bees (it’s only available on the Saturday – one pot per person, and no babies don’t count as people) and saw the Mineralogy Museum which was super cool.
- Went to dinner at my friend Véronique’s apartment. Véronique offers amazing market tours, cooking classes, and lunch in her gorgeous apartment which I can’t recommend enough. They’re always a client favorite!
