Paris with a Baby: Winter Essentials

paris with a baby winter essentials

As an American mom of two living in Paris, I’ve experienced winter with a newborn, babies, and a toddler. These are my absolute non-negotiable winter essentials for Paris with a baby whether it’s snowing, raining, or just cold. If you’re traveling to Paris with a baby or toddler during the winter, these are truly the items I can’t live without!

Key Takeaways

  • Stroller footmuff tops the list of winter essentials for Paris with a baby or toddler, providing warmth and protection from the elements.
  • Stroller mittens follow closely, ensuring both baby and caregiver stay warm without the hassle of gloves.
  • A baby snowsuit simplifies keeping your baby warm, protecting them from cold, and is easy to put on and take off.
  • A stroller rain cover is crucial in Paris, as rain can be unpredictable; it fits perfectly with the Yoyo stroller.
  • Winter footwear like cashmere booties helps keep little feet warm and secure, preventing babies from kicking them off.

Stroller Footmuff

My top winter essential for Paris with a baby or toddler is a stroller footmuff. A footmuff will keep baby warm without having to worry about blankets and also offers a layer of protection from wind and rain. I think the Yoyo is the best stroller for Paris, so we have the Yoyo footmuff. The advantage is the Yoyo footmuff will fold up with the stroller. If you have the Yoyo Newborn it includes a blanket that’s essentially a footmuff.

Stroller Mittens

Stroller mittens are a close second for my top must-have winter item for a baby or toddler in Paris. Obviously baby comes first, but keeping whoever is pushing the stroller comfortable is also super important! With stroller mittens you don’t have to worry about taking your own gloves on and off constantly, you can’t easily lose or drop a glove, and your hands will stay warm. We have the Yoyo stroller mittens and I have no notes. I also like these Warmmuffs for something slightly chicer.

Baby Snowsuit

I used to think snowsuits for babies were overrated…until I got one. It’s just as easy to put the baby in a snowsuit as it is to put them in a jacket and you don’t have to worry about their head, hands, feet, or legs getting cold. Once you’re out of the cold it’s one zip and they can come out. Our snowsuit is from Tartine et Chocolat – I like that the mittens and feet can either be attached or not.

A Stroller Rain Cover

Our stroller rain covers live permanently in the our stroller baskets because in Paris you truly never know when it’s going to start raining. Since we have the Yoyo stroller we have the Yoyo Rain Cover for a perfect fit (there is also a bassinet rain cover and newborn pack rain cover which I would recommend if you’re using those). This is also a good universal stroller rain cover option.

Winter Footwear

If you have a baby that can kick off every pair of socks you need these cashmere booties – neither of my babies could get them off. The drawstring is key. When it’s really cold I put socks under them too.
