The first week of our newest “limited-lockdown” in France went by surprisingly fast. In all honesty it doesn’t make much sense to me, but I’m going with it. Today is my dad’s birthday so I’m looking forward to toasting him from afar with a his favorite drink, a margarita. Five Friday Finds from France includes yet another book that I’m dreaming about – Riviera Cocktail, a spring pasta recipe, Le Creuset’s perfect herb planters and more!
Spring Break is only happening through photos for me this year, which is why I was so excited to come across this new edition of Riviera Cocktail, a gorgeous coffee table book. The Côte d’Azur in the 1950s…can you even imagine how fabulous it must’ve been? Irish photographer Edward Quinn captured it all and is taking you there in this fabulous book. I’ll be taking major notes while dreaming about a future trip.
Framboise (Raspberry) and Fraise (Strawberry) Season
This week I could no longer resist temptation and bought my first raspberries and strawberries of the season. The raspberries were perfect and I’ve apparently become a strawberry snob. My favorite variety of strawberry is gariguette because they so sweet and flavorful, but I think it’s a little too early in the season. I will gladly keep taste-testing for perfection! If you’re interested in planting gariguette strawberries you can buy seeds from France here!
A Sauce Béarnaise Adventure
Over the past year I’ve gotten pretty confident in my cooking abilities, however I was woefully unprepared for the challenge that is Sauce Béarnaise. My first attempt was a massive fail. Luckily Chef Tony Ducrocq from Le Voltaire (aka the béarnaise master) gave me a tutorial and helped me correct the many things I was doing wrong. It was a labor of love, but the sauce tasted delicious. I think having the best equipment makes all the different with a delicate sauce like this one, so I’ve added this Mauviel copper saucepan to my wishlist.
Le Creuset Herb Planters
I’m ready to go crazy with my window sill herb garden and think I need these Le Creuset herb planters. They’re so happy and of course practical with the trays for extra water. While I’m tempted to get every single color, I love how clean and crisp the white looks.
A Spring Pasta Recipe
I always crave pasta on Monday and have been trying to look for new recipes to try after almost burning out my French-inspired TikTok pasta. When I saw this Fusilli with Creamed Leek and Spinach recipe on Pinterest and thought it looked perfect. I made a slight change and did a fondue aux poireaux for the base (all that requires is adding a tablespoon of dijon mustard) and used a little less cream. It was fast, easy, and delicious – the perfect spring pasta!
