I’ve you’ve talked to anyone who’s been in Paris over the past week chances are they’ve told you it feels more like October (or November) than July. It’s been especially rainy and uncharacteristically chilly, which I will take over a heatwave any day. This week’s Five Friday Finds from France features some fun Nathalie Lete x Anthropologie plates, where to find the strongest coffee in Paris, a recipe to try with your summer eggplant and more!
Nathalie Lete x Anthropologie Plates
It’s no secret that I have a thing for plates. These Nathalie Lete x Anthropologie Charmante dinner plates would be the perfect whimsical addition to any table (there are mugs too). I like mixing and matching, but a full set of the lilac Eiffel Tower plates is pretty tempting too. Anthropologie is a good place to find French-inspired items and collaborations. Hotel Magique x Anthropologie is still one of my favorites.
A Weekend Brocante Along the Seine

I wasn’t going to go to any brocantes on Sunday just because it was raining. Then on my way to Le Boulanger de la Tour I came across one that was along the Seine and I absolutely couldn’t resist. It was drizzling which ultimately turned into a full on downpour which was the only thing that stopped me. There were so many incredible items that I wanted to take home: a Paris print, colored glasses, porcelain, and a caviar service to name a few. Shopping weekend brocantes is such a fun addition to any trip to France, feel free to contact me here if you’d like some advice in incorporating one or more into your trip!
The Strongest Coffee in Paris

I unintentionally discovered what I think to be the strongest coffee in Paris this week at Piero. Everything I’ve ever tried at Piero is truly incredible, so I had no doubt the coffee would be too. What I wasn’t expecting was an actual jolt from the caffeine. It wasn’t a bad thing, rather just different from what I’ve come to expect from an espresso in Paris. The next time I’m jet lagged in Paris Piero will be my first stop!
Il Gelato del Marchese Financier

I was already a big fan of Il Gelato del Marchese. After trying the financiers, I’m now a huge fan. Financiers are delicious little almond cakes that I first became hooked on after trying them at Eric Kayser (pistachio and raspberry are my favorite flavors). At Il Gelato del Marchese they take the financier to the next level, filling them with caramel and topping them with homemade crème chantilly (whipped cream). As you can imagine, it’s an incredible combination. We tried both pistachio and chocolate, with gelato on the side!
David Lebovitz’s Eggplant Caviar Recipe

I, like David Lebovitz, am not sure that I’d ever tried of eggplant caviar (caviar d’aubergine) before moving to France. Here you’ll find it at most grocery stores near the dips: hummus, tarama, “guacamole,” etc. Since it’s eggplant season I decided to try to make my own. I’m on the fence about making dips at home versus buying them. I like making them when they’re relatively easy (like tzatziki) and prefer buying them when they’re too involved (like hummus – peeling the shells is a nightmare). I’m happy to report that eggplant caviar falls into the very easy category, and David Lebovitz’s recipe was perfect. It’ll be a welcome addition to l’apéro for as long as eggplants are in season!
