I can’t believe it’s finally December. There were times that it felt like it would never arrive but it also feels a bit like it was just December yesterday. The holiday decorations around Paris are lifting spirits especially this year, whether you’re seeing them in person or virtually. This week’s Five Friday Finds from France includes a new memoir about Paris, a live virtual walk through Montmartre with historical commentary, the second Bouquinistes Auction, Place Dauphine Christmas trees and more.
Krystal Kenny’s Paris Memoir
If you can’t get enough of Paris you’ll definitely want to check out American Krystal Kenney’s memoir Paris: A Life Less Ordinary, which released this week. The book details Krystal’s experiences following her dream and moving to Paris, including those not so easy moments. From the “look inside” preview on Amazon you can get a sense of Krystal’s writing style which pulls you in from the start. This would be a great item to put under the tree for a Francophile!
The Second Bouquinistes Auction
I’m thrilled to announce the second Bouquinistes Auction is here! The first auction was a great success and we raised over 1,100€ for two very deserving bouquinistes. Through Monday you can bid on books and original watercolors that would all make wonderful gifts for someone on your list or just yourself. The best part is absolutely 100% of the revenues go to the bouquinistes.
Chanel’s ‘Le Château des Dames’ Métiers d’Art Show
Chanel presented their ‘Le Château des Dames’ Métiers d’Art collection last night at the Château de Chenonceau in the Loire Valley. The show was inspired by the Renaissance style of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici who both lived at the château. Another fun fact is that Catherine de Medici’s own personal symbol was a two intertwined C’s – just like Chanel’s logo. Creative Director Virginie Viard reinforced the notion of fashion being a fantasy and escape with this show – just perfect for 2020. Watch ‘Le Château des Dames’ here.
Live Montmarte Sunset Walk
Want to take a sunset walk around Montmartre this Sunday? No matter where you are, you can! Join Krystal and Claudine from the La Vie Creative Podcast as they discuss the artists who lived in Montmarte. Claudine will provide all of the fun history and photographer Krystal will lead the walk. This photo of Montmartre comes from the Voir Paris book, currently available in the Bouquinistes Auction!
Place Dauphine Trees
I don’t know where I’ve been that I’ve missed the Christmas trees in Place Dauphine year after year…but. Now I know! The trees are decked out in red and gold ornaments and ribbons and it’s almost like a little forest. The simple, traditional display might be one of my favorites in Paris!
