Napoleon III Apartments at the Louvre

Napoleon III Apartments at the Louvre

I thought it would be fun to do a “virtual tour” of the Napoleon III Apartments at the Louvre for anyone missing Paris right now. These apartments are a perfect example of the Louis XIV style of French opulence and splendor, which I could definitely use a dose of right now. Along with the Galerie d’Apollon, the Apartments are one of my favorite parts of the Louvre.

I last visited the Napoleon III Apartments before seeing the Da Vinci exhibit. Our time slot was at 7PM on a Sunday, so the Louvre wasn’t as crowded which was nice. When you’re coming from other parts of the museum into the Apartments it can be a bit shocking. That’s one of the best parts of visiting the Louvre though, it’s so large and filled with so many treasures.

The Napoleon III Apartments are an excellent example of the Louis XIV style of decor. Each room is truly a feast for the eyes, and drip in gold, gilded bronze, crystal chandeliers, and gorgeous burgundy fabrics.

The Grand Salon

The large salon is my favorite part of the Napoleon III Apartments. The best word I can think of to describe it is lavish. From the massive central chandelier to the ceilings and walls, every inch of the space is opulent. I could spend hours staring at the intricate details on the walls and ceiling.

The State Dining Room

I can only imagine what it must’ve been like to have a meal in the massive state dining room. The room is definitely not a place for a casual dinner!
