Once again I am so ready for the weekend, and I know I’m not alone. My thoughts have been with family, friends, and fellow Texans in general this week, some who have been without power, water, and/or food because of the winter storm. This week’s Five Friday Finds from France includes a Louvre x Casetify collaboration, a look at a snowy Versailles, the first pink blooms in Paris and more!
Château de Versailles Virtual Content
If you’re missing the Château de Versailles right now the good news is they have a very nice selection of virtual content available. I loved this video of a snowy Versailles – the gardens really are so stunning covered in a blanket of white.
In this month’s newsletter they also included the link to an interesting clip on the Queen’s Hamlet. Subtitles are available in English – just click the settings button, then choose subtitles and auto-translate to select English. Last but not least, I recommend watching “IF VERSAILLES WAS WHISPERING TO ME.” The video is made without talking and is completely gorgeous and relaxing.
Flying Circus Everyday Bread
Flying Circus began as a bread delivery service for Circus Bakery during the first lockdown in Paris. Since that time, they’ve morphed into a full online market stocking everything from cocktails to Christmas trees (seasonally) with a fully independent delivery service.
As a way to give back to those who have been hit especially hard by the pandemic, Circus Bakery is selling 20 loaves (half of their production) of Everyday Bread daily for a symbolic 1€. The bread will be available everyday starting at 4PM at Circus Bakery (63 Rue Galande, 75005). In their announcement they said “we are not rich people yet, but we think that those who today share a little are the ones who will share a lot.” I couldn’t agree more.
The First Blooms in Paris
Last year I missed most of spring in Paris because I was in Normandy (luckily!). I can’t wait to watch the city bloom this year, I have a feeling it will be even more beautiful than I can imagine. One of the very first trees (that I know of) in Paris to get pink blooms already has a few. It’s located in the small Square Honoré-Champion. I have a post on where to see the best early blooms in Paris – I have a feeling that I will be updating it this year!
An Aligot Recipe to Try
I had my first Aligot of the season last weekend and oh my gosh – I can’t stop thinking about it. Aligot is basically cheesy mashed potatoes, but you have to try it to really understand how delicious it is. It’s another one of the ultimate French comfort foods for sure. You can easily make it at home too!
I think looks like a great Aligot recipe, and there’s even a video so you can exactly how to make it. As a note, Aligot is traditionally made with tomme fraîche (or Tomme d’Auvergne) cheese. If you can’t find that, I recommend substituting equal parts of shredded Gruyère cheese (for the flavor) and mozzarella (for the stretchiness).
The Louvre x Casetify Collaboration
If you’re interested in the Louvre and Casetify collaboration launching on February 23rd, join the waitlist. This fine art and tech capsule collection brings some of the Louvre’s most celebrated masterpieces directly to your phone, Airpods, or even water bottle. I’ve been looking for a new phone case and think this is what I’ll go for! A great way to have a little bit of the Musée du Louvre with you every day!
I hope you enjoyed this week’s Five Friday Finds from France. I’ll be back tomorrow with Weekend Links!
